The long way home...

Part I: Ejafuck...what?
It started all on April the 15th, on the nice island of Grand Bahama, we were listening to the news on ndr2 via livestream...there was something about some weird Icelandic volcano that erupted a few hours ago and was spitting ash into the air. We joked about Silke not getting to Norway the next Monday, because there might be some problem with the airspace...
Then we got into our rental car to bring it back to the agency and bring driven to te airport.

Part II: Eyjafjuklallalalu?
At the airport we got smarter...well, at least we asked whether there might be a chance for our flight to Amsterdam to be grounded/cancelled - "no, no, it's gonna fly!"...hence, we started our journey back to Hamburg. Funny thing on the side, if you fly from the Bahamas back to the states, you immigrate on the island...so, when you board the plane, you are already in the states. This will be quite important later on ;)
Nice flight from Freeport to Atlanta, no turbulences, nothing...once we gout out at Atlanta, the fun started...Amsterdam was cancelled...because of an ash cloud that was forming over Europe thanks to the volcano...funnily, of this time (2pm, 15/04) it was the only flight cancelled. We started trying to get some information...can we switch to another plane, maybe to Frankfurt whatever? When we got to the international terminal (after complete inability of all delta-desk agents at the other terminal to help us) the line for the "proper" desk was already fucking long...we were standing in line for like 4 hours...people to Frankfurt, Duesseldorf and Munich were allowed to go to their gates and leave...as time went on more and more planes were grounded.
When we finally got to the desk (which was another desk somewhere else they sent us) we got a nice standby flight to Frankfurt the next day and a confirmed flight home via Paris five days later...
We got a hotel and went to Ruby Tuesday to make the best out of the fucked up day...

Part III: Eyjafja...la...lo...ku?
Friday morning, first thing -> checking the live-ticker about news from the ash.
Aaaaand? Frankfurt was closed...no flight today...on the other hand, this also meant no standing in lines and waiting for not getting a seat on the standby flight.
So I booked us two new hotel rooms until Tuesday and we went to the airport to get our luggage back...
We didn't think it'll be easy to get it, big airport, many grounded flights...but it should be there on the next day...so, we thought...
First trip into Atlanta then, checking out the city and so on...not un-nice...went to the apple store, tried to buy an iPad...sold out, so we reserved two...
Some burgers, we had to exploit the nice US cuisine, and back to the airport to get our bags back...
And guess what, after 10h there wasn't even one suitcase, bag or whatever...fun...let's go home and get some sleep...

Part IV: Eyjafjälläjüköll...
For the next three days we went to the airport every morning and evening...and each morning there was a bag waiting for us...
Looking for flights didn't make any sense since the whole of European airspace was completely shut down...
Saturday, my duffel bag...sadly...no underwear for Silke or me...but, yeah, flip-flops and some dirty shirts...at least...down to H&M to get some underwear...and then some nice food and beers...
Sunday, this morning Sushi was allowed to go into the small storage and look whether one of our bags was already there...he came out with my seabag and nothing else...menage we got our whole luggage...Sushi and Nadine had nothing...didn't make me feel good...we used this day to check out the worlds biggest aquarium (nice otters!!! And cool large size fishes...and sea mammals) and the world of coca cola (shit, patriotic shit...but testing 64 varieties of coke was interesting)...afterwards...Hooters!!! Nice chicken wings, but it didn't live up to the expectations...food and boob wise...might be due to all four of us being there...wireless men were greeted nicely and shit ;)
Ah, that evening, we also got told that the flights to Frankfurt and Duesseldorf had to turn around in the middle of their routes, since the airports got magically closed in between...
Monday, finally Nadine's bag...Aaaaaand we got an email from the apple store that we could come and get our iPads!!! So, it was a good day, with some sushi and beers in the evening...also, there one flight going to Amsterdam and Paris again...two of both destinations were cancelled...but at least a chance...
Anxious to get back home...

Part V: Eyjafjallajökull (yeah, got it right!!!)
So, Tuesday morning...checkout of the hotel...and...no bag waiting for Sushi...fucked up shit...only retards working for delta and the baggage claim in Atlanta...
BUT: our flight really started!!! Okay flight until Paris...stupid little cunts sitting right behind Silke and me...always kicking our seats...I hope your next boyfriends fuck you in the ass in an unpleasant way, little French girls...
After we landed I got aggressive...which was only due to fucking Charles de Cock!!! The most fucked up airport ever!!!
And I learned something new...they ain't got toilet seats on the male toilets!!!! Just those fucking paper seats...and if you try to put three of them above each other, the fucking toilet flushes and takes them with you...hard time shitting...fucking Paris!

However, they really got us home...the Hamburg flight also flew! And we were really the first KLM / Air France / Delay flight to touch down in hamburg for six days...woooohoooo!
After we got home, we went out again for grocery shopping...I was never so happy to walk somewhere while it's hailing ;) Back in Hamburg!!!!
YEAH!!!

P.s. We slept 15h that night ;)

extended holiday...

still in atlanta...we changed the hotel (cheaper one, and two rooms ;), and settled with getting back on Tuesday...hopefully...it still does not seem like the ashcloud will be gone until then...
Today we also got our first piece of luggage back, more to follow today (or later...maybe...).

So we will make the best of our time, I tried to buy an iPad, sadly they were all gone yesterday, so I reserved one, maybe I'll get it before Tuesday ;) There is also a big aquarium here in Atlanta (the worlds largest, to be precise), I think we'll visit that...

So, wish me luck that we'll get back to Europe at least this week ;)

Lost in transit...

You guys probably have heard about the ashcloud...mist of you might have already seen ;)

I might not see it at all...we wanted to fly back from the Bahamas to Hamburg via Atlanta...well, Almost nothing is flying to Europe...we got rebooked and our next confirmed flight will be on Tuesday...however we will be on standby for a flight each day until we get one...

But things aren't so grim...the weather here is very good and we found a very nice hotel, where we got a cheap four bedroom suite ;)
And we are off to get some nice dinner :) meeeeaaaat!

Swimming with dolphins!!!

Usually I am way too chilled to post something around here, but today is a special occasion!
We were just out swimming/diving when we suddenly saw some fins in the water...at first there was some commotion whether that might be a shark, but when we saw that there were more than one and they were jumping it was quite obvious, that they were dolphins.

So we got back out and swam with them, they got pretty close and you could hear them all the time underwater. Sadly, no one touched one, but hey, WHATEVER ;)

Ah, I also swam with Marley our nice neighborhood cow-dog a few minutes earlier ;)

We arrived at our condo on Grand Bahama 1.5h ago, awesome weather after not so great weather in NYC.
Here is a picture, just to give you guys a short impression, this ist the view from our bedroom balcony (the view from the living room one is equally good ;)
